She is the daughter of Dennis Alan Taylor, a ex-bank executive, as well as Jennifer Marina Joy, a psychologist, she is half English and half Spanish. His father is an Argentine with Scottish and English ancestry. Her mother is of Spanish and English heritage. She was the first born of a household with six kids. Four of her siblings are from her previous marriage to Taylor's dad. The family was in Buenos Aires until she was six then relocated to the Victoria area in London. Taylor-Joy claims that the move to London was traumatic and she was unable to study English in order to prevent returning to Argentina. Hill House had to be her new school after she switched from Northlands. Then she went to Queen's Gate School, where she learned dance and participated in productions. When she was 16, she left school in order to pursue acting as a career. Taylor-Joy had always wanted to be an actor. As a teenager, Sarah Doukas Founder of Storm Management gave her the chance to become a model.
